Velier
Velier is an Italian spirits company founded in Genoa in 1947, which, under the leadership of Luca Gargano, has become one of the most influential names in the modern world of rum. Velier is particularly renowned for its uncompromising, often limited-edition bottlings of Caroni, Demerara, Hampden, Foursquare and Clairin, as well as for its strong focus on traditional production methods, transparency and tropical ageing.

Velier & Luca Gargano
Founded in Genoa in 1947, Velier is now one of the most influential independent companies in the international rum world. Luca Gargano has played a decisive role in this, having developed Velier over the decades into a pioneer of authentic, transparently labelled and traditionally produced rums. In particular, the legendary bottlings from Guyana and Trinidad – including numerous Demerara and Caroni rums – as well as later collaborations with distilleries such as Hampden and Foursquare, have earned Velier an exceptional reputation amongst collectors worldwide.
Gargano’s influence, however, extends far beyond the selection and bottling of exceptional casks. With the Gargano Classification, named after him, he developed an alternative system for classifying rum. Rather than distinguishing rum – as has long been the practice – primarily by colour, origin or supposed style, the classification focuses in particular on the method of distillation and the actual production process.
